Locally based
Cruise America (www.cruiseamerica.com)
is offering support vehicles to a
Lethbridge, Alberta firefighter
diagnosed with prostate cancer
throughout a long journey that will be
made by bicycle from Victoria, BC to St.
John’s, NL. The journey that is being
called the Cycle for Life (www.cycleforlife.ca)
is a momentous attempt to make knowledge
on prostate cancer available to the
public in two ways: personal visits to
as many fire stations as possible along
the route in order to provide them with
information on prostate cancer, and
donations directed toward aiding
informational non-profit organizations
in their attempts to disseminate
knowledge to the public (various
Prostate Centers across the country, the
Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Canadian
Cancer Society, etc.)
1 in 7 men develop
prostate cancer during their lifetime
and 1 in 27 die as a result. These
startling numbers have not resulted in
an equal amount of exposure of this
particular type of cancer. Foreknowledge
of the condition can make a huge
difference because prostate cancer is
typically slow growing and can often be
managed successfully. The Cycle for Life
is a worthy endeavor and deserves the
support of many; and many have come to
the aid of John as he organized and
prepared for the ride. The need for a
support vehicle to follow behind the
cyclists as they make their trek to
provide them with necessities when the
day’s ride is complete and the
opportunity for relief in case of
emergency was recognized by Cruise
America and they donated the use of a
recreational vehicle for John
Wagontall’s use throughout his journey.
Cruise America
knows that John will accomplish the
goals he has set and hopes that the ride
will inspire many to recognize the
growing need for knowledge that could
lower the negative statistics prostate
cancer is responsible for while
providing the general public with the
awareness necessary to donate time or
money to the organizations that continue
to work on the behalf of the general
public every day in order to provide
necessary information in the fight
against cancer.
